DOTr, MMDA confirm EDSA rehab works will start in mid-June of this year
After countless delays, the long-overdue rehabilitation of EDSA will officially begin next month. This was confirmed by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, who announced that rehabilitation works will begin by mid-June 2025.
In another announcement, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Romando “Don” Artes confirmed that the EDSA rehabilitation project will begin next month and will officially begin on June 13, 2025. Artes added that they will announce more details about the upcoming rehabilitation works.
First announced by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the EDSA rehabilitation project was originally slated to begin as early as March 2025. However, the project had to be delayed several times as government agencies wanted to plan out traffic rerouting during rehabilitation works. There was even a proposal to adjust government working hours to 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM to ease EDSA traffic amid the rehabilitation.
There were also concerns about the EDSA Busway temporarily halting operations during the rehabilitation project. The DPWH, however, assured the public that operations will continue since a portion of the busway will be temporarily relocated to an adjacent lane to make way for road repairs.
So far, there are no exact details about traffic rerouting while the EDSA rehabilitation project is ongoing. However, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon did say they are currently in talks with San Miguel Corporation to suspend toll collection along parts of the Skyway while EDSA is being rehabilitated.
With rehabilitation works along EDSA set to start next month, both the DOTr and MMDA have already advised motorists to prepare for heavy traffic while repair works are ongoing. Hopefully, DOTr's plan to suspend toll collection on parts of the Skyway system will help alleviate traffic congestion during the rehabilitation works.
