BYD Atto 2 EV gets clearance from LTO

BYD Cars PH also set to launch Atto 2 EV

It seems there's no stopping BYD Cars Philippines from bringing more of its vehicles into the country. Aside from the upcoming Sealion 5, which was also homologated by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the agency has also approved another BYD vehicle, the Atto 2.

First revealed earlier this year, the Atto 2 is an electric vehicle (EV) that sits below the Atto 3 and serves as BYD's subcompact (B-SUV) crossover EV. Based on a recent memorandum circular the LTO released, there will be two variants of the BYD Atto 2 for the Philippine market, the Atto 2 Dynamic and the Atto 3 Premium.

The Atto 2 Dynamic has a claimed range of up to 280 km and is powered by an electric motor that produces 70 kW or 95 PS. Meanwhile, the Atto 2 Premium is listed to have a range of up to 380 km, and its electric motor is rated to put out 130 kW or 177 PS. Both variants will also have a lithium-iron phosphate battery pack, although the exact capacity of the batteries was not mentioned.

A quick check at what other markets have given us a good idea of what to expect. The PH-spec BYD Atto 2 Dynamic will likely get a 32 kWh battery pack, while the more powerful Atto 2 Premium could be equipped with a 45.12 kWh battery pack. As far as torque output is concerned, the Dynamic is rated to put out 180 Nm while the Premium gets more with 290 Nm.

When it comes to recharging the battery, the Atto 2 Dynamic has an estimated recharge time of 5.6 hours with an AC charger and only 37.2 minutes via a fast DC charging system. Over to the Atto 2 Premium, it will take 7.4 hours to fully recharge it via an AC charger and will only take 42.3 minutes with a DC charger.

In terms of size, all variants of the BYD Atto 2 will measure 4310mm long, 1830mm wide, and 1675mm tall with a 2620mm wheelbase. It will also have a ground clearance of 150mm and 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 215/65 series tires.

With the BYD Atto 2 already getting clearance from the LTO, it might not be long before BYD Cars Philippines distributor ACMobility launches it in the country. The only question now is, how affordable will the BYD Atto 2 be?
