No full closure, rehab to be done in segments
It’s only been a few days since the holiday season ended. Along with the holiday weight, we’re also still recovering from the horrendous traffic it brought along. But for those who frequently pass through EDSA, well your patience in traffic will be thoroughly tested this 2025.
That is after the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel Bonoan announced that the road rehabilitation of EDSA will kick off soon, and will be one of the main projects of the Marcos administration this year.
Bonoan said that the President wants to improve the road quality of EDSA, as damaged sections are set to be repaved with the entire length to be laid with asphalt. Other rehab works include better drainage to mitigate flooding. This rehabilitation follows after years of countless reblocking activities were done to the highway for its maintenance.
According to Bonoan, the rehabilitation project of the entire length of EDSA could go on until 2026, as the construction work will be done in segments since the government cannot implement a full closure of the major thoroughfare.
The DPWH Secretary has yet to elaborate on the start date of EDSA’s rehabilitation. While a better road surface in EDSA should bring good news to our car’s suspension components, congestion is likely to remain the same as EDSA has simply in overcapacity for decades now.
