How does the Nissan Magnite stack up against the Toyota Raize?

After holding a preview of its latest mini SUV last year at the Philippine International Motor Show, Nissan Philippines Inc. appears to be making the final preparations to launch the 2025 Magnite.

With Nissan looking to join the A-SUV segment, the Magnite could become a popular choice for buyers who want a budget yet feature-packed crossover. But just how would the Nissan Magnite fare against one of its possible rivals, the Toyota Raize? That's right, it's time once again to roll out the measuring tape and compare stats.

Sizing Up

Let's start by checking out the dimensions of each vehicle. Beginning with the Nissan Magnite, this one measures 3994mm long, 1758mm wide, and 1572mm tall. It also has a 2500mm wheelbase and a generous ground clearance of 205mm.

Moving towards the Raize, Toyota's smallest crossover SUV, is 4030mm long, 1710mm wide, and 1605mm tall. The Raize's wheelbase comes in at 2525mm while its minimum ground clearance is rated at 200mm.

Side-by-side, the Raize is longer and taller by 36mm and 33mm, respectively, and has a wheelbase that's longer by 25mm. However, the Magnite is 48mm wider than the Raize, which could translate to better cabin & luggage space, width-wise. Ground clearance, on the other hand, is a close fight, although the Magnite's 205mm means more peace of mind when going over the rough stuff.

Under The Hood

The Nissan Magnite and Toyota Raize may be small crossovers, but both vehicles benefit from forced induction. The Magnite comes with a 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder engine that makes 100 PS at 5000 rpm and 152 Nm of torque between 2800 – 3600 rpm when paired with the brand's XTronic CVT. It's also available with a 5-speed manual gearbox, which increases the torque output to 160 Nm.

Over to the Raize, the Toyota is available with two engine choices. First up is the 1.0L turbocharged inline-three that makes 98 PS at 6000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 2400 – 4000 rpm. The 1.0L turbo is exclusively paired with a CVT.

Last but not least is the 1.2L naturally-aspirated three-cylinder, which is available for lesser variants of the Toyota Raize. Unlike the turbocharged 1.0L, the 1.2L engine puts out 88 PS at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. This particular engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT.

Through sheer power output, the Nissan Magnite beats the Toyota Raize. However, the Raize is the only one that's available with a naturally aspirated engine, which some buyers might prefer.

Equipment List

It goes without saying that affordable vehicles have to have a long list of features to attract customers. The Nissan Magnite and Toyota Raize are no different, as both vehicles come with plenty of amenities to keep passengers entertained.

While we don't have an exact list of features yet for the Magnite, we can expect Nissan's newest crossover to come with a touchscreen infotainment system complete with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The Magnite will also likely come with a wireless charging pad, LED ambient lighting, leather upholstery, a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control with rear vents, remote engine start, a reverse camera with a 360-degree view function, automatic LED headlights, and a host of intelligent mobility features.

As for the Raize, the crossover is available with an 8- or 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, keyless smart entry, leather-fabric upholstery on high-grade models (fabric on lesser variants), a digital instrument panel, LED or halogen headlights, automatic climate control, a reverse camera, blind-spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alert.

With both the Magnite and Raize available with a long list of features, both vehicles offer plenty of amenities, which is something buyers will be interested in.

The Nissan Magnite has yet to be officially launched in the country, although there is already growing interest in the new crossover. It has a 1.0L turbocharged engine shared with the Almera, which means it will be light on its feet, and operating costs will likely be the same as the B-segment sedan. Its compact size means it's easy to drive around and perhaps even easier to park. Plus, the 205mm of ground clearance will offer peace of mind when going over rough terrain. Finally, its long list of features will give interested buyers plenty of reasons to get one.

We'll be curious how Nissan Philippines will be able to price the all-new Magnite once the automaker officially reveals it.
