Nissan PH gets approval for new passenger vehicle with a 999cc engine
Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI) greeted the New Year this 2025 by maintaining its 4th position in the automotive industry, as well as launching the all-new 7th generation Patrol Y63. Despite the automaker's recent struggles, it seems all is well at NPI.
In fact, it appears the automaker is preparing for yet another launch later this year. Remember when Nissan previewed the Magnite at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS)? Well, Nissan Philippines may already be making preparations for its eventual arrival. This comes after the automaker received regulatory approval for two new passenger vehicles.
Based on the recent documents, the Japanese automaker got the go-ahead to bring a new passenger vehicle that's powered by a 999cc engine. The only other vehicle Nissan has in its portfolio that has a 999cc (or 1.0L) engine is the Almera, which received an update last year and is currently on sale. With that, Nissan Philippines could have already received approval for the upcoming Magnite.
In other markets, the 2025 Nissan Magnite is powered by a 1.0L or 999cc three-cylinder turbocharged engine that's shared with the Almera. It makes 100 PS at 5000 rpm and 152 Nm (160 Nm for the manual) of torque between 2800 – 3600 rpm. Power is then transferred to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or the brand's XTronic CVT that drives the front wheels.
Size-wise, the Magnite measures 3994mm long, 1758mm wide, and 1572mm tall with a 2500mm wheelbase. As a result, the Nissan Magnite is an A-SUV fighter that will likely be aimed at competing against the likes of the Toyota Raize and Kia Sonet. Despite its small dimensions, the Magnite comes with 205mm of ground clearance.
Other features that we could expect from the Nissan Magnite include 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, multi-color LED ambient lighting, leather upholstery, remote engine start, a wireless charging pad, a 7-inch digital instrument panel, and LED lighting.
With Nissan already exporting the Magnite to left-hand drive (LHD) markets since March 2025, it seems the Philippines will be the latest market to get the all-new Magnite. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed that Nissan will launch it very soon and will be able to price it competitively.
