Department of Energy gives Volvo EX90, ES90 EV recognitions

Volvo Philippines had a relatively quiet 2025. Aside from launching a new entry-level variant of the EX30 EV, the automaker also launched the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants of the XC60 and the XC90.

For 2026, however, it looks like Volvo Philippines is set to launch not one, but two new vehicles. This comes after the Volvo ES90 and the Volvo EX90 appeared on the Department of Energy's (DOE) list of recognized EVs.

Based on what the DOE has released, the EX90 is a full-size luxury electric SUV that measures 5037mm long, 1964mm wide, and 1744mm tall. It was first revealed years ago and is a 7-seater EV that delivers sports car-like acceleration thanks to powerful electric motors. For the Philippine-spec version, it looks like we'll be getting the Performance version, which delivers a combined 517 PS and 910 Nm of torque.

Powering the electric motors is a large 106 kWh battery pack, which translates to a range of up to 465 km, based on the WLTP cycle. The EX90 is also capable of going from 0 – 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds despite its hefty weight.

Over to the Volvo ES90, it's an all-electric luxury sedan that stands tall, much like an SUV. It reminds us of the S90, albeit taller and sleeker. Based on the DOE's listing, the ES90 measures 5000mm long, 1942mm wide, and 1546mm tall. It also has a 92 kWh battery pack and is rated to crank out 245 kW or 333 PS with 480 Nm of torque. On a full charge, the 92 kWh version of the ES90 can travel up to 650 km and can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

Volvo Philippines has yet to share anything about the ES90 and EX90. But since both vehicles are already on the DOE's list of recognized EVs, perhaps the brand is preparing to launch the two vehicles soon.
