Nissan’s ProPilot 2.1 reminds you to keep right

Keeping the overtaking lane open seems to be more of a suggestion than a common courtesy on our roads these days. Most of the time, you’ll see campers in the overtaking lane doing well under the speed limit which can really leave you frustrated. Also, have you seen how most rear-end collision accidents happen on the overtaking lane itself?

That explains the sorry state of our expressways. But then again, manufacturers are also aware of this. Nissan is now trying to find a way to prevent inattentive drivers from camping on the overtaking lane through its ProPilot driver assist technology.

The Japanese manufacturer released the latest version called ProPilot 2.1, which now comes with a simple lane change alert to move right after completing an overtake. While it’s still unable to take charge and forcefully move you over to the right if you’re that oblivious, Nissan believes the simple reminder to keep the overtaking lane open could hopefully be effective enough to reduce left-lane campers.

Nissan will roll out the system first in North America with the 2025 Rogue but also said the all-new Patrol and its Infiniti counterpart, the QX80 will have the ProPilot 2.1 driver assist technology present.

Hopefully, other automakers will follow suit with this ADAS feature. While there’s a chance we can’t totally get rid of left-lane hoggers, reducing them would still be a major W.
