MMPC receives approval for a passenger vehicle 2360cc gas engine
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is the second best-selling car brand in the country, and it achieved that despite not having a single electrified vehicle in its lineup.
As the current oil crisis continues, however, it may be time for MMPC to join its fellow Japanese brands in offering an electrified model. Well, looks like MMPC could be (finally) responding to the times.
We have spotted that MMPC received approval for a gasoline-engined passenger vehicle with a curb weight between 2215-2260 kg, and an engine with exact displacement of 2,360cc. Upon checking the numbers, we found out that the figures match those of the fourth-generation Outlander PHEV.

Mind you, it’s not the first time that Mitsubishi has hinted at bringing the latest Outlander PHEV to the Philippine market. Back in 2023, MMPC actually brought in a few units to the country as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations. For some reason, however, the 7-seater crossover was not offered for retail sales.
That could all change for 2026, though, considering the market conditions recently. Should our crystal ball prove to be true, the new Outlander PHEV units coming in could also be a bit better than the ones we saw in 2023.

The model that’s being offered in markets like Japan, Australia, and the US was updated with a more powerful powertrain, longer all-electric range, reworked suspension, bigger screens inside, a more upscale interior, and a Yamaha premium sound system.

It has a 2.4-liter gasoline engine paired to two electric motors and a 22.7 kWh battery, making up its plug-in hybrid system. Combined power outputs are rated at 300 PS and 450 Nm of torque, with an all-electric range of up to 86 km and a total range of 844 km.

Pricing, of course, will be key to the Outlander PHEV being either a hit or a miss in the market. Considering the Outlander’s size, its PHEV powertrain, and interior features, the model could be well-placed if Mitsubishi could put it in the ballpark of the mid-2 million to sub-3 million price range.
If they can match the all-new RAV4's pricing as they do in other markets, then better. Here's to hoping this could finally be it for MMPC with the Outlander PHEV.
