Here's your first look at gas-powered 2025 Toyota Tamaraw UV

Gas-powered Toyota Tamaraw Utility Van gets a 2.0L engine and can seat 12 passengers

We already saw Toyota Motor Philippines reveal the next-generation Tamaraw a couple of weeks ago. With its new IMV-0 platform, simple yet rugged construction, and various body styles that will suit customers' needs, the all-new workhorse is poised to become a staple on Philippine roads.

Initially, TMP revealed the next-generation Tamaraw's long wheelbase (LWB) turbo-diesel variants. The gas-powered variants will follow suit around March 2025 as the automaker is still building up capacity at its Sta. Rosa plant in Laguna. But that doesn't mean Toyota has already built several examples of the gas-powered Tamaraw.

In fact, we recently saw an all-new short-wheelbase (SWB) Tamaraw Utility Van that gets a 2.0L four-cylinder gas engine under the hood. As mentioned before, this particular variant gets the 1TR-FE inline-four gasoline motor which makes 139 PS at 5600 rpm and 183 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. Power is then sent to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Size-wise, the short-wheelbase Tamaraw UV measures 4970mm long, 1795mm wide, and 2100mm tall. This makes the SWB version shorter in length by 335mm compared to the long-wheelbase UV. In addition, the SWB can accommodate up to 12 passengers while the LWB can ferry a total of 14 passengers.

Hop inside and the Tamaraw UV has a basic yet functional dashboard. It might not have the flashiest of cabins but for its purpose as a utilitarian workhorse, it's enough. The instrument cluster features a speedometer and odometer but lacks a tachometer (AKA rev counter). It has a simple three-spoke urethane steering wheel, aircon dials, and a 2-DIN sound system that features AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity.

Pricing for the gas-powered Tamaraws is not yet available. However, we can expect them to be priced lower when compared to the turbo-diesel models. Our best estimate is Toyota could sell the 2.0L Tamaraw Utility Van M/T at around a million Pesos or perhaps even less. For reference, the turbo-diesel 2.4L Tamaraw Utility Van M/T has a sticker price of PHP 1,142,000.
