BIMS 2026: Tesla debuts six-seater, long wheelbase Model Y L
Tesla Model Y L has ample seating for six and a suite of premium upgrades
After being launched in China last year, the 2026 Tesla Model Y L has made its regional debut at this year’s Bangkok International Motor Show, and it's ready to turn heads and redefine expectations.
With its extended wheelbase and new six-seat configuration, this all-electric SUV doesn’t just add space, it brings a fresh level of versatility and sophistication that could shake up its segment.
At first glance, the Tesla Model Y L may seem unchanged, but a closer look reveals a higher, redesigned roofline that boosts headroom and overall cabin space, making the interior feel more accommodating.
The extended wheelbase also stretches the body further, making room for a third row. Around the back, Tesla has added a newly styled spoiler, giving it a more dynamic presence.
Dimension-wise, Tesla shares that the Model Y L measures 4,976 mm long, 1,982 mm wide (excluding mirrors), and 1,668 mm tall, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase.
Compared to the standard Model Y, it’s 186 mm longer, 44 mm taller, and rides on a wheelbase that’s been stretched by 150 mm, while width remains unchanged.
Inside, a 16-inch touchscreen and 18-speaker audio system lead the upgrades, while dual wireless chargers (50W and 30W) can recharge two devices at once.
A new center console speaker enhances the in-cabin experience, while charging ports are available across all three rows. Still, the biggest highlight is the revamped seating layout.
The Model Y L adopts a 2+2+2 configuration, featuring captain’s chairs in the second row and a central aisle that makes access to the third row much easier.
Safety remains a priority, with airbags fitted across all seating rows. In terms of practicality, it offers up to 2,539 liters of cargo space, which can be expanded further by folding the third-row seats flat.
Under the hood, the Model Y L is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup paired with an 82 kWh battery pack. The front motor produces 193 PS, while the rear motor delivers 269 PS, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 4.5 seconds. On a full charge, Tesla estimates a driving range of up to 751 km based on the CLTC cycle.
With the Model Y L now officially unveiled in Bangkok, its arrival in the Philippine market could be closer than expected, especially considering that Tesla vehicles sold locally are sourced directly from the brand’s Shanghai factory.
