Longer, taller Tesla Model Y L revealed with seating for six

Remember when our spy photographers spotted what looked to be a Tesla Model Y with a longer wheelbase? Well, the cat is officially out of the bag, as the longer (and taller) Tesla Model Y L has been revealed in the PRC.

While some might say the Tesla Model Y L still looks the same, those with keen eyes will immediately notice the redesigned roofline. Instead of immediately sloping towards the rear, the Model Y L's roof is taller, which allows for more cabin space inside the EV. It's also longer, thanks to the extended wheelbase, to make additional room for the third row.

In fact, Tesla says the Model Y L measures 4976mm long, 1982mm wide (not including side mirrors), 1668mm tall, and has a 3040mm wheelbase. Compared to the regular Tesla Model Y, the L is longer by 186mm in terms of length, is taller by 44mm, and has a wheelbase that's 150mm longer (width remains the same).

Tesla was also busy changing the rear of the Model Y L by giving it a redesigned spoiler. This translates to a sportier and more dynamic look despite having a taller roof.

Inside, the Model Y L gets a new 16-inch touchscreen infotainment, while a pair of wireless charging pads rated at 50W and 30W can simultaneously recharge two phones at once. There's also a new center console speaker and charging ports for all rows of seats for better convenience. But it is perhaps the updated seating layout that serves as the main highlight of the Model Y L.

With a 2+2+2 seating configuration with an open aisle in the middle of the second row, third row occupants can easily ingress or egress in the Tesla Model Y L. For added safety in the event of a crash, all rows of seats are equipped with airbags. When it comes to cargo space, Tesla claims the Model Y L has an expandable luggage space of 2,539 liters and can be further expanded when you fold the third row seats.

Powering the Model Y L is a dual-motor AWD system with an 82 kWh battery pack. The front motor generates 193 PS while the rear motor puts out 269 PS. This allows the Tesla Model Y L to sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. On a full charge, Tesla says the Model Y L can cover up to 751 km based on the CLTC cycle.

With the Tesla Model Y L now available in China, it might not be long before Tesla Philippines brings it here. After all, the Tesla models sold here are built and sourced from Tesla's Shanghai factory.
