Suzuki e Vitara has arrived in Southeast Asia

Suzuki's electric dreams in Southeast Asia are about to be realized after the Japanese automaker held the regional debut of the e Vitara at this year's Bangkok International Motor Show.

That's right, the global EV model that's built in Gujarat, India, and the twin of the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, is now in the region. Available with dual or single electric motors and a lithium-iron battery pack, the Suzuki e Vitara combines sleek styling and a zero-emissions powertrain in a subcompact crossover SUV package.

Just like the Urban Cruiser EV, which already made its debut in the Philippines, the Suzuki e Vitara features muscular curves and a distinct front fascia that's characterized by angular lines and dynamic proportions. It also has stylish 18-inch alloy wheels, black body cladding, distinct LED taillights, and a tall ride height. This makes the EV quite literally stand out from the rest.

Size-wise, the e Vitara measures 4275mm long, 1800mm wide, 1635mm tall, and has a 2700mm wheelbase. It also has a 5.2-meter turning radius and 180mm of ground clearance.

Step inside, and the e Vitara has a two-tone interior that's finished in black & brown, resulting in a more sophisticated look. It also comes with SUV-inspired elements, with the large aircon vents and a commanding driving position. It also has plenty of niceties such as two-tone leather-fabric seats, LED ambient lighting, piano black accents, a pair of digital displays (one is the instrument cluster, the other the touchscreen infotainment system), and climate control.

Depending on the variant chosen, the e Vitara is available in 2WD or 4WD, with the latter benefiting from the brand's AllGrip-e 4WD system. The base 2WD version makes use of a single electric motor that puts out 144 PS with 189 Nm of torque and has a 49 kWh battery pack.

There's also a more powerful variant that puts out 174 PS with 189 Nm of torque and has a bigger 61 kWh battery pack, which is what the PH-spec Urban Cruiser has. On a full charge, this variant delivers up to 476 km of range.

Last but not least is the 4WD version, which delivers a combined 183 PS with 300 Nm of torque and is also powered by a 61 kWh battery.

With Thailand now getting the e Vitara, it might not be long before Suzuki Philippines launches the EV later this year. In fact, it's already recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE) and may only be offered in the 2WD version with 174 PS, 189 Nm of torque, and a range of up to 476 km.
