All-electric Suzuki e Vitara gets DOE recognition

Yesterday, we reported on the quiet exit of the Suzuki Swift from the Philippine market. This leaves the S-Presso as the brand's sole hatchback offering. With the hatchback market shrinking as it is (and the shuttering of the Suzuki Motor Thailand plant), it appears that we won't be getting the fourth-generation model, which has been on sale in other markets since 2024.

With the Japanese automaker focusing more on electrified vehicles, it looks like Suzuki Philippines will follow suit. This comes after the all-electric Suzuki e Vitara appeared on the Department of Energy's (DOE) list of recognized EVs. In addition, we've seen some of the e Vitara's initial specifications.

Starting with the dimensions, the e Vitara will measure 4275mm long, 1800mm wide, and 1635mm tall. It will also have a 2700mm wheelbase, 180mm of ground clearance, and 306L of luggage space with the rear seats deployed.

Unlike other markets, which can come with dual electric motors, the Philippine-spec e Vitara could only be offered with a single electric motor. It puts out 128 kW or 174 PS with 193 Nm and has a range of 426 km on a full charge thanks to a 61 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery. From a standstill, Suzuki claims the e Vitara can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and has a top speed of 150 km/h. The e Vitara also supports AC & DC fast charging thanks to a Type 2 CCS port.

As far as features and amenities are concerned, the e Vitara will be available with a long list of equipment. These include a 360-degree camera, intelligent driver aids (adaptive high-beams, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane departure prevention, multiple collision braking), automatic climate control, USB Type-A & Type-C charging ports, a wireless charging pad, a fully-digital instrument panel, and a touchscreen infotainment system.

With the e Vitara now recognized as an EV by the DOE and Suzuki already having some of its initial specifications, we can expect the electric crossover to debut later this year. Will we see it at this year's Manila International Auto Show (MIAS)? Watch this space.
