Subaru reveals all-new Getaway BEV at 2026 NYIAS
A few months ago, Subaru announced they are expanding its electric lineup with a three-row SUV that’s basically a rebadged version of the fifth-generation Highlander BEV. Well, now, it didn’t take them too long to make do with that statement.
Subaru has launched the all-new Getaway as its fourth BEV model for the North American market. As expected, the electric SUV is mostly a copy-paste job of the Highlander BEV, but Subaru was still able to add its own bits and features to separate it from its Toyota twin.

On the outside, the all-new Getaway gets rid of the Highlander’s Hammerhead face and puts on something closer to the smaller Uncharted and Trailseeker BEV. Likewise, the rear fascia has a unique design, where the license plate holder is located at the tailgate instead of the bumper-mounted ones on the Highlander.

Inside, the all-new Getaway gets an identical dashboard design, along with the layout of the Highlander with three-row seating. There’s a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a larger 14-inch touchscreen for infotainment with 5G connectivity for Over-The-Air (OTA) updates. However, Subaru made different material choices to give the Getaway’s cabin a more upscale feel compared to its Toyota twin.

Interestingly, the Subaru Getaway has a more powerful dual motor version than the Toyota Highlander, with 420 horsepower compared to the Highlander’s 338. And while the Toyota-badged BEV is available with a single motor setup, Subaru says the Getaway will exclusively be AWD.
At launch, the Getaway has a 95.8 kWh battery that gives it a range of more than 300 miles (483 km) in one charge, and can be plugged in to a NACS port to use Tesla’s Supercharger stations. The maximum EV charging rate is only 150 kW on a DC charger, making the Getaway top up its batteries from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes.

As with all Subarus (and Toyotas), the Getaway comes with numerous driver assist and active safety features such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane change assist, and adaptive cruise control. A Subaru exclusive would be the dual-function X-mode to tackle different kinds of surfaces and conditions.
Subaru says the all-new Getaway will go on sale in the US by late 2026, making it a 2027 model year vehicle.
