BMW officially reveals next-gen iX3 with 469 PS and 645 Nm of torque

After several teasers, concepts, and prototype sightings, BMW's newest electric compact crossover has officially been revealed. BMW presents its first series-produced Neue Klasse model, the all-new iX3.

Powered by the brand's sixth-generation eDrive technology, BMW says the latest iX3 is capable of covering up to 800 km on a single charge and supports up to 400 kW of peak charging. Not only that, but BMW says the all-new iX3 sets new standards in terms of electric efficiency and long-distance capability. In addition, the iX3 features BMW's “Heart of Joy” drivetrain and cutting-edge high-performance computers that make for a more intelligent vehicle than ever.

Starting with its design, the all-new BMW iX3 features styling elements from the Vision Neue Klasse X concept from last year. Despite toning it down for production, BMW designers were still able to give the iX3 one heck of a look that will grab everyone's attention. Immediately capturing your gaze are the vertical kidney grille and the twin headlight design, which hark back to the classic BMW 2002, but with a futuristic twist.

The sleek front fascia is then complemented by a more dynamic-looking bumper and LED daytime running lights on the headlights and grille surround. Combined with the sculpted intakes and gloss black accents, the all-new iX3 blends futuristic looks and SUV-like proportions.

Speaking of proportions, the side profile of the iX3 features a distinct roofline, pronounced wheel arches with gloss black body cladding, the signature Hofmeister kink, and stylish alloy wheels that are available in 20, 21, and 22-inch sizes. The rear gets horizontal LED taillights that come with a distinct lighting pattern, along with a tailgate spoiler that provides additional downforce and flair.

Size-wise, the all-new BMW iX3 measures 4,783 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, 1,636 mm in height, and features a 2,898 mm wheelbase.

Open the doors and the all-new iX3 welcomes you into BMW's vision for a cabin of the future. There's the new Panoramic iDrive, which covers the entire width of the cabin from pillar to pillar. The unique display serves as the vehicle's digital instrument cluster and can monitor various parameters beyond just the vehicle, like infotainment, navigation, weather, date, and more.

The Panoramic iDrive works in tandem with a new 17.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display and is powered by the latest BMW Operating System X. Not only does it come with fresher graphics, but it also features a more intuitive interface, while keeping the menu shortcuts for easier changing of menus. Unfortunately, the climate control system is now integrated within the touchscreen, but BMW did retain some physical controls for the wipers, turn signals, volume, gear selector, parking brake, and side mirrors.

The iX3's steering is also unique, as it features touch-sensitive controls. This is surprising given that some brands like Volkswagen and Honda experimented with such controls but reverted to physical buttons due to customer input. We'll be curious to see if BMW's system works better.

When it comes to cargo space, BMW says the iX3's new EV architecture allows for more luggage space. With the rear seats up, BMW claims it can hold up to 861 liters of cargo, and with the rear seats folded, it can accommodate up to 1,841 liters.

For its initial launch, the iX3 was revealed in its most powerful form via the iX3 50 xDrive. It comes with a pair of electric motors that deliver a total system output of 469 PS and 645 Nm of torque. From a standstill, BMW says the all-new iX3 can sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h. As mentioned earlier, the iX3 supports up to 400 kW of charging thanks to its 800V architecture.

When hooked up to a DC fast charger, the iX3 can immediately have up to 372 km of range in just 10 minutes. Even more impressive is the fact that it can be recharged from 10% to 80% via a DC charger in just 21 minutes. It also comes with a regular 11 kW charger, while a 22 kW charging unit is available as an option. Last but not least, its 108.7 kWh battery pack translates to a total system range of up to 805 km based on the WLTP cycle.

The market launch of the all-new BMW iX3 will first begin in Europe in spring 2026. The US market will then follow in the summer of the same year. And just like the outgoing iX3, a variant of the all-new iX3 will also be made at the company's Shenyang facility in China for Chinese customers. We'll be curious to see if BMW Philippines will once again import the iX3 from the PRC.
