2024 Mitsubishi Montero Sport gets Hyper Power 2.4L diesel, PH next?
Refreshed 2024 Mitsubishi Montero Sport has been launched in Thailand
Yesterday, we received insider info that Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) will reportedly bring the facelifted Montero Sport into the country with the carried-over 4N15 turbo-diesel engine. This comes as a surprise since we were initially expecting the midsize SUV to get the new 4N16 turbo-diesel which is already seeing use in the recently launched Triton pickup.
Heck, we also saw leaked pictures of the 2024 model year refresh of the Montero Sport (AKA Pajero Sport) last week which signaled that the brand is preparing to reveal it soon. Fast forward to the present day, and Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has just revealed the 2024 Montero Sport.
Beginning with the most important upgrade first, the 2024 Montero Sport for Thailand now comes with the “Hyper Power” 2.4-liter turbo-diesel engine dubbed the 4N16. Unlike the 4N15 which is Euro4 compliant, the new 4N16 for the Montero Sport is actually Euro5 compliant. It makes 184 PS with 430 Nm of torque which translates to an increase of 3 PS while the torque is the same.
Power is then sent to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. That’s right, the 4N16-powered Montero Sport gets two fewer gears compared to the 4N15 variant we get which is available with an 8-speed automatic. We’re not entirely sure why the automaker had to swap gearboxes but it might have been due to the emissions rating.
As far as its exterior is concerned, the 2024 Montero Sport now gets an Xpander-inspired makeover thanks to the reworked grille along with redesigned LED headlights. Also receiving some changes are the bumpers, LED daytime running lights, and the 18-inch alloy wheels which now get a turbine-like appearance.
Hop inside and the 2024 Montero Sport still gets an all-digital display via the instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system. However, it appears it gets new & sharper graphics which the midsize SUV badly needed to keep itself fresh and up-to-date. We also won’t be surprised if its system could soon support wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.
With the 2024 Montero Sport already in Thailand, when can we expect the refreshed SUV to make its way here? Our best guess is it could arrive in the Philippines sometime in Q2 of 2024. Heck, it could make its local debut just after the reveal of the upcoming Xforce which is slated to arrive in June of this year.
