BYD Cars Philippines has just revealed a new electrified vehicle that is set to shake up not just the compact crossover segment but also the hybrid market altogether. Say hello to the 2024 BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, and it's here to put electrified crossovers on notice.
Combining the best features of a parallel hybrid powertrain (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology, and a series hybrid system, the BYD Sealion 6 features the brand's Super DM-i system. It consists of an electric motor that drives the front wheels and produces 197 PS with 325 Nm of torque. The motor is then assisted by a 1.5L engine that makes 97 PS and 135 Nm of torque which serves as the vehicle's range extender/power generator. Last but not least, it has an 18.3 kWh Blade Battery.
This gives the Sealion 6 a total system output of 217 PS with 325 Nm of torque. In addition, BYD claims the vehicle can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. It also gives the Sealion 6 the ability to have two drive modes; EV Mode and Range Extended Mode (also called HEV mode). BYD says the Sealion 6 has an estimated range of up to 1,100 km and a full EV range of up to 100 km. The vehicle even comes with Economy, Normal, and Sport modes for good measure.
Need to charge up a campsite or provide temporary power during a blackout? The Sealion 6 comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. Should you need to recharge the Sealion 6 at home, it has a Type 2 AC charging port with a portable 1.7 kW charger and a free 7kW charger. Combined with the BYD App, customers can monitor the charge time and status of the Sealion 6 in the palm of their hand.
Design-wise, the Sealion 6 features the Ocean x Face Design that gives the crossover a sleek and premium look. It gets a pair of U-shaped Suspension LED headlights that feature a built-in crystal texture lighting signature. The rear, on the other hand, comes with distinct LED taillights along with an integrated light bar that runs the entire width of the tailgate. Last but not least is the coupe-like roofline and the panoramic sunroof which gives the crossover a more premium look.
Hop inside and a full-leather interior greets occupants in the Sealion 6. A large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system sits proudly on the center of the dashboard. Like most BYD touchscreens, the display can be rotated to either landscape or portrait. Also worth mentioning is the system supports wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity.
The Sealion 6 also comes with intelligent voice command that can control certain functions of the vehicle, dual wireless charging pads rated at 15W, a 10-speaker sound system courtesy of Infinity, a 360-degree camera system, front & rear parking sensors, a tire pressure monitoring system, 6 airbags, and a soundproof windshield for improved acoustics and better NVH deadening.
For extra peace of mind, the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i has an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). This gives the crossover intelligent cruise control with stop & go (traffic jam assist), front collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure assist, and traffic sign recognition.
The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i retails at a special introductory price of PHP 1.548 million and is available in three colors; Arctic White, Azure Blue, and Harbor Gray. Both the Azure Blue & Arctic White hues come with a Navy Blue & Gray Interior while the Harbor Gray finish gets a Tan & Black cabin.
