New brand to be established in H2 2026

Last year, there were reports that the Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus company was signing a deal with Foxconn, which involved the sale of Foxconn-made EV buses under the Fuso branding.

It turns out, the partnership is going a step further. Fuso and Foxconn have finalized a deal to establish a new EV bus brand in Japan. The two parties are yet to reveal the official name of the new entity, but they have already given a background of what the business structure is.

The new company will have its headquarters at the Fuso plant in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, while the EV buses for the new company will be developed and manufactured at the Mitsubishi Fuso bus manufacturing plant in Toyama City.

Furthermore, the new entity aims to rapidly develop and launch EV buses for both domestic and international markets, while continuing to improve its existing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle lineup under the Fuso brand.

This setup also allows Foxconn to respond quickly to Japanese regulations, quality standards, and customer needs since development, procurement, production, and sales functions are all based in Japan. Foxconn will then leverage its expertise when it comes to manufacturing EV buses to aim for business success not just in Japan, but also in overseas markets.

The new bus brand is scheduled to be established by the second half of 2026, with Katsuhito Takara, head of the bus business division at Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus, expected to serve as CEO.
