Mitsubishi Ralliart aims to reclaim AXCR victory with improved Triton

Triton rally truck is wider and more powerful for 2024

After coming up short of repeating its overall victory in the 2023 Asia Cross Country Rally, Team Mitsubishi Ralliart is returning to the rally hungrier than ever, with a significantly revised rally truck to back it up.

Mitsubishi Ralliart has revealed the new Triton rally truck at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show. While it features a new livery with the signature energetic red and black motif, the changes made to the Triton is far from skin deep.

Last year, the team entered AXCR with an all-new Triton tweaked to comply to the Group T1 restrictions for modified cross-country vehicles. While they received the Team award despite keeping most of the running gear in factory specification, Mitsubishi Ralliart was unable to repeat its overall victory in 2022.

But now, Mitsubishi Ralliart claims the Triton rally truck competing in this year's AXCR will be even more refined and evolved overall with enhanced acceleration performance and road handling, which they hope would take them back to the top step of the podium.

"Last year, we confirmed the toughness and durability of the all-new Triton in the grueling conditions of AXCR 2023. The rally also reaffirmed that the Triton's strengths lie in its sporty handling and its excellent road handling on rough terrain. This year will be our second year competing with the new-gen Triton, and we have made the Triton rally car more powerful and enhanced its driving performance by widening the tread further so that we can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with competitors' vehicles with high-displacement engines. Team Mitsubishi Ralliart is taking on the crown, and we look forward to your support,” said Hiroshi Masuoka, team director of Team Mitsubishi Ralliart.

This year’s AXCR will be the 29th in its history. The rally will begin with a ceremonial start held in Surat Thani, on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand on August 11th. Competition will begin the next day, where rally drivers will go south through Thailand, crossing into Malaysia on the 15th and finishing on the 17th at the capital, Kuala Lumpur.

The rally will cover approximately 2,000 kilometers, with over 1,000 kilometers of special stages. This year’s course is expected to be even more grueling with a wide range of terrain such as mountains, jungle, and river crossings that will demand exceptional road handling, durability, and, this year in particular, speed.
