Geely EX2 electric hatchback gets DOE recognition; PH launch soon?

The BYD Dolphin may want to watch its back soon, as Geely Philippines is preparing to launch a new all-electric hatchback.

Aside from the EX5 EM-i plug-in hybrid (PHEV) crossover, Geely Motor Philippines Corporation is gearing up to reveal the EX2 electric hatchback. That's right, the Geely Geome Xingyuan we saw back in November 2024 is on its way to the Philippines as the EX2.

The Department of Energy (DOE) recently updated its list of recognized EVs, and the Geely EX2 is now on it. More importantly, it looks like there will be two variants available: Pro and Max. Despite having two different variants, both the Pro and Max versions will have a 39.4 kWh battery pack and a maximum electric output of 85 kW or 115 PS. Size-wise, the Geely EX2 will measure 4135mm long, 1805mm wide, and 1580mm tall.

Based on the initial specifications we managed to find, the Geely EX2 will also have a 2650mm wheelbase, up to 162mm of ground clearance (unladen), a luggage capacity of 375 liters (rear seats deployed) and 1,320 liters (rear seats folded), and a curb weight of 1,300 kg.

In terms of power output, both the Geely EX2 Pro and Max versions will have a single electric motor that puts out 115 PS with 150 Nm of torque. A 39.4 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery provides the necessary voltage that gives it a range of up to 395 km based on the NEDC cycle. Recharging the battery from 10% to 100% via an AC charger can take up to 6.5 hours. Meanwhile, a fast 70 kW DC charger can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in just 25 minutes.

When it comes to amenities, the Geely EX2 will be available with leather or fabric seats, manual air-conditioning with rear vents, a 540-degree panoramic camera system (or a reverse camera), a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, full LED lighting, a host of airbags, and many more.

Geely has yet to reveal when they plan to launch the EX2 for the Philippine market. Once revealed, however, the EX2 will likely go up against the likes of the BYD Dolphin.

For a quick comparison, the BYD Dolphin measures 4125mm long, 1770mm wide, 1570mm tall, and has a 2700mm wheelbase. It has a 44.9 kWh battery pack, which gives the Dolphin a range of up to 405 km based on the NEDC cycle and a single electric motor that puts out 95 PS and 180 Nm of torque.

With fuel prices still at an all-time high, the Geely EX2 could become a popular choice for those who are thinking of making the EV switch amid the ongoing tensions.
