Third generation Audi Q5 gets a major makeover inside & out
After giving us a glimpse of its latest luxury crossover last week, Audi has revealed the next-generation 2025 Q5. Featuring a sleeker and more dynamic look, the third generation Q5 not only gets a flashier-looking exterior but Audi was also busy giving its interior a major upgrade. More importantly, Audi has given its popular crossover a tech upgrade.

Starting with the exterior design first, the midsize crossover features a sportier look that highlights its proportions. It has taut and high shoulder lines which create a distinct and powerful silhouette - giving the illusion the vehicle is longer than it is. Up front, there’s the familiar Singleframe grille with large honeycomb-style inserts and large side air intakes. Also worth mentioning are the sculpted LED headlights & daytime running lights that give a sharp and focused look.
The rear of the all-new Q5 features a clear design that is highlighted by a full-width LED lighting element which gives the crossover a sportier appearance. The smooth curves on the rear quarter panels, tailgate, and back bumper further give the Q5 a sporty elegant look.

Audi has also decided to swap faux exhaust finishers for functional ones for the all-new Q5. Depending on the variant, diesel-powered versions come with a double square tailpipe under the rear diffuser on the left-hand side while gasoline-powered variants get rectangular tailpipes on both the right and left sides of the vehicle. Unique only to the SQ5 are the four iconic twin round tailpipes that feature a new sharpened design.
Hop inside and the Q5 gets a more modern-looking cabin. Like most Audis of today, the all-new Q5 gets a plethora of digital displays. A curved 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster sits in front of the driver while a massive 14.5-inch MMI infotainment display sits in the center of the dashboard. Last but not least is a 10.9-inch passenger display.

The center console is almost devoid of physical buttons as Audi decided to put the controls for the climate control on the touchscreen itself. Other available features present in the Q5 include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, high-quality leather upholstery, an electronic gear selector, touch-sensitive buttons to control certain parts of the vehicle, fully-adjustable rear seats including a tilt function, a wireless phone charger with a cooling feature, a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, a pair of USB-C ports for the front & rear, and a heads-up display.

A total of three engines are available upon its launch and all benefit from mild-hybrid (MHEV) technology. With it, Audi claims it can provide up to 24 PS of additional power and 230 Nm of torque for short periods thanks to a 1.7 kWh battery and an electric motor. In addition, all engine variants of the 2025 Q5 are paired with a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.
The first engine is the 2.0L TFSI four-cylinder powertrain that makes 204 PS with 340 Nm of torque. Depending on the variant, the 2.0L TFSI will be available either as a front-wheel drive crossover or with the brand’s signature quattro all-wheel drive system.
Next is the 2.0L TDI turbo-diesel engine. Yes, the all-new Q5 is still available with a diesel powertrain which makes 204 PS and 400 Nm of pull. Unlike the TFSI, the TDI is only offered with the quattro AWD. Last but not least is the top-of-the-line SQ5 which gets a 3.0L TFSI V6 that churns out 367 PS and a healthy 550 Nm of torque.

Besides getting three powertrain choices, the 2025 Q5 also gets the brand’s new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform. It’s the same platform found in the all-new A5 and is the first crossover SUV in the Audi range to be fitted with the PPC. According to the brand, the new platform will allow them to launch high-volume models with high technical standards across various segments.
The all-new Audi Q5 will be launched in Germany and other European countries in Q1 2025 and will continue to be produced at the brand’s San Jose Chiapa, Mexico facility. With that, we can expect the next-generation Q5 to make its way here sometime in either Q3 or Q4 of next year.
