Nissan gives fourth-generation Almera a major refresh for 2026

Remember when pictures of what we believed was the all-new 2027 Nissan Almera were leaked ahead of its launch? Well, the B-segment sedan has just been fully revealed for Mexico, and it's actually a major refresh.

That's right, the fourth-generation Nissan Almera (AKA Nissan Versa) just received a major redesign inside & out, along with plenty of important upgrades to keep the subcompact sedan fresh.

Starting with the exterior, the 2026 Almera now adopts the brand's global design DNA, which translates to a more modern and imposing appearance. Borrowing inspiration from the all-new Nissan Leaf, the 2026 Almera features a split LED headlight design, with the LED daytime running lights placed on top while the LED headlights are placed below it. Combined with the blacked-out grille and lower air intake vents, the 2026 Almera looks bolder and more dynamic than ever.

The Almera's rear was also redesigned and features new LED taillights that give it a sharper appearance. The trunk lid was also redesigned, while the back bumper gets new reflectors and blacked-out accents that match the front fascia. Last but not least are the two-tone 17-inch turbine-style alloy wheels that give the sedan a sleeker look.

Open the doors, and Nissan gave the 2026 Almera a tech upgrade. There is now a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display that supports wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. It is then accompanied by a 7-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver and can be configured to the driver's preferences.

Other available features present inside the 2026 Almera include a new automatic climate control system, Nissan Connect connectivity, new leather upholstery with contrast stitching, new ergonomically-designed headrests with integrated speakers, and an 8-speaker Bose sound system.

Under the hood, the Mexican-spec Almera/Versa is powered by a 1.6L naturally aspirated HR16DE four-cylinder engine that makes 119 PS with 149 Nm of torque. The engine is then mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or an XTronic CVT. Once launched in other markets like Thailand and Southeast Asia, we won't be surprised if the updated Almera will get the 1.0L turbocharged three-cylinder that puts out 100 PS and 152 Nm of torque.

With the 2026 Nissan Almera now available in Mexico, we're hoping Nissan brings it soon to Southeast Asia. Heck, we're hoping the refreshed B-segment sedan makes an appearance at the 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show.
