2026 Lexus IS revealed with exterior and interior changes

Remember when Lexus revealed the Ultimate and Climax Editions of the IS 500? Released exclusively for the US and Japanese markets, these special edition models are limited to 500 units each and come with a 5.0L naturally-aspirated V8 that pushes 479 PS and 535 Nm of torque via an 8-speed automatic.

At the time, we initially thought that this was the beginning of the end for Lexus' sports sedan. However, it looks like the Ultimate/Climax Editions were only for the V8-powered version of the IS.

Say hello to the 2026 Lexus IS and its redesigned front fascia. That's right, the sports sedan is here to stay, and the Japanese automaker has given it a nip and tuck. Despite being over a decade old, Lexus was able to inject new life into the 2026 IS thanks to a sporty makeover.

Immediately grabbing your attention is the restyled front grille and LED headlights. Not only is the grille larger than before, but it also loses the signature spindle grille design. The front bumper was also revised and gets new side intakes that give the sedan extra flair.

The rear, on the other hand, largely remains the same, as it still comes with the stylish LED taillights and aggressive back bumper with dual exhausts on the V6 versions. However, we did notice the 2026 IS now gets a new trunk-mounted spoiler for the F Sport version, which gives it a more aggressive look.

Other key exterior changes include 19-inch alloy wheels (F Sport only), a new exterior color called “Neutrino Gray”, and red brake calipers complete with the Lexus logo.

Hop inside, and the 2026 Lexus IS gets a new 12.3-inch digital instrument panel along with a refreshed touchscreen infotainment system that's also the same size. While some might say not much has changed, we did notice the signature analog clock is no more. The climate control was also updated, while the round aircon vents have been replaced with more angular ones that give it a fresher look.

There's also a new interior color called “Prominence”, which blankets the cabin in a nice red hue. Meanwhile, the upper console and start button bezel now feature the new “Forged Bamboo” trim for a more eco-friendly interior. Other cabin updates include a new wireless charging pad, USB-C charging ports, and revised door trims.

Under the hood, the 5.0L V8 is no more for the 2026 Lexus IS. However, they did keep the IS 350 and the IS 300h models. The former keeps the 3.5L naturally-aspirated V6 and continues to make 315 PS and 380 Nm of torque. The RWD version is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox, while the AWD variant gets a 6-speed automatic.

Up next is the IS 300h, which gets a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that's assisted by a hybrid system. It makes a combined 223 PS and is paired with a CVT. Unlike the IS 350, the IS 300h is only available as a RWD sedan.

The refreshed Lexus IS will go on sale in early 2026, which means Lexus Philippines could bring it to the country sometime next year. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed that we won't have to wait for its arrival for too long.
