TGR Heritage Parts reissue 4A-GE cylinder head, engine block
Who needs a surplus 4A-GE 16valve engine when you can get a new one?
4A-GE enthusiasts rejoice! Toyota Gazoo Racing has just announced that it will be reproducing parts for the iconic engine that powered vehicles such as the Corolla Levin and the Sprinter Trueno.
Launched in 2019 by Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR), the GR Heritage Parts Project was created to preserve the legacy of classic Toyota cars. By reproducing select discontinued parts as genuine components, the program helps enthusiasts continue driving and preserving their iconic vehicles.
TGR has already reproduced spare parts for the A70 and A80 Supra, the Toyota 2000GT, the 40, 60, 70 ,80 Series Land Cruiser, and the legendary Corolla Levin Sprinter Trueno (AE86), fondly known as “Hachiroku.” So far, GR Heritage Parts has already released 25 reproduction components this September for the AE86, with the latest additions comprising front signal lamp assemblies, a 4A-GE 16-valve engine wiring harness, clearance lamps, and transmission bearings.
But the most notable additions to the AE86 TGR reproduction parts lineup are the 4A-GE 16-valve cylinder head sub-assembly and engine block sub-assembly for the Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno (AE86). Reproduced with the latest simulation technology, engineering, and materials, while retaining the original design and specifications. Responding to customer requests, the cylinder head sub-assembly was reinforced at the intake and exhaust ports, while the cylinder block sub-assembly was updated with additional bosses and ribs, making it compatible not only with the AE86 but also with other front-engine, front-wheel drive (FF) Toyotas.
Cylinder head sub-assembly
The cylinder head features enhanced engine precision by introducing a cutting process in the combustion chamber, ensuring more consistent compression ratios. To improve airflow, the intake port received a special coating that reduces surface friction. For easier assembly and reliability, cam cap knock pins are now installed in all areas, rather than just select sections in the past.
Engine block sub-assembly
A modern honing process was applied to the cylinder bore to enhance machining accuracy. Compared to the original design, a more durable material was used, while structural changes to the crank cap were incorporated based on advanced simulations to improve durability.
Initial-D 30th Anniversary
On September 13 (Sat) and 14 (Sun), at Fuji Speedway in Shizuoka Prefecture, the “Initial D 30th Anniversary 2Days” event will feature GR Heritage Parts on display alongside a fully restored AE86 equipped with the reproduction 4A-GE engine. At the GR Heritage Parts booth, visitors can also place pre-orders for the two newly reproduced parts.
