Subaru gives 2025 Crosstrek a bigger engine, more power

US market Crosstrek gets 2.5-liter boxer four

It’s only been less than two years since the crossover we’ve known as the XV became the Crosstrek, but that hasn’t stopped Subaru from giving it an update.

Yes, it’s been given a power bump, but not exactly the thing you’d expect if you’re a long-time fan of Subaru. The Crosstrek for the US market now gets a bigger 2.5L boxer engine for its higher variants, but it’s still naturally aspirated.

That means, it now has 185 PS and 241 Nm of torque compared to the current 2.0-liter’s 154 PS and 197 Nm of torque. The transmission of choice is still the Lineartronic CVT that sends power to all four wheels via Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

Along with this, Subaru made a few improvements to the EyeSight system. The rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot detection with lane keep assist now has automatic emergency steering that helps avoid forward crashes at speeds below 80 km/h.

However, the extra increase in power and extra safety net comes at an extra cost. There’s a price increase across the board for the 2025 Crosstrek in the US market, which includes the standard Crosstrek, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness versions. Should Subaru PH decide to bring the 2.5L version of the Crosstrek to our market, then we should also expect a price increase for it.

While the power bump and tech updates are most welcome, it’s the e-Boxer hybrid and high-performance STi versions that we are really missing from Subaru. It gives both enthusiasts and buyers something to enjoy. Not to mention, it’s something loyal Subaru fans wouldn’t mind spending extra money on.
