Land Rover subtly upgrades the Defender for 2026 model year

It’s already been several years since the all-new Land Rover Defender made its debut. Despite being launched nearly six years ago, the latest generation Defender continues to be a popular model for the Coventry-based automaker.

In fact, Jaguar Land Rover Philippines distributor Inchcape recently launched the most powerful version, called the Defender OCTA, last month. But since it’s been more than five years since the Defender came out, the automaker has decided to give it some upgrades.

That’s right, this is the 2026 Land Rover Defender, and it’s got some nifty upgrades both inside and out, as well as some new technologies. Starting with the exterior changes, the 90, 110, and 130 Series Defenders now come with redesigned LED headlights. While not noticeable at first, they now come with new LED graphics for a more stylish look. Meanwhile, the LED taillights now come with a flush look and a dark-tinted finish for that extra zing.

Also worth mentioning are the front and rear bumpers, which now come with new surfacing, along with a gloss black grille that now comes as standard. The hood inserts and side vents were also given attention as they now get a textured pattern, replacing the old checker-plate plastic finish from before. Last but not least, new optional 22-inch seven-spoke Diamond Turned Dark Gray alloy wheels are now available.

The exterior changes may not be the most drastic, but since the Defender still looks good as it is, it’s not surprising that Land Rover went for the “less is more” approach. However, they did introduce new color finishes like Woolstone Green, Borasco Gray, and Sargasso Blue.

Hop inside, and the changes are also as subtle as the exterior. There’s now a bigger 13.1-inch touchscreen media display, which replaces the outgoing 11.4-inch screen. On the other hand, the gear selector has been slightly repositioned for better ergonomics. The center console now also features a new sliding stowage area to keep valuables hidden from view.

New features such as the optional Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control and the upgraded All Terrain Progress Control are now available in the 2026 Defender. A Driver Attention Monitor is also fitted as standard for better peace of mind.

Land Rover has also expanded the accessories list for the 2026 Defender. Apart from the Explorer, Adventure, and Urban variants, individual accessories such as cross bars, underchassis protection, and roof racks can now be specified with a dark finish. Other new extras include an air compressor exclusive to the 130 Series, refreshed matte black hood decals, deployable or fixed side steps, and a winch.

As far as powertrain is concerned, the 2026 Land Rover Defender continues to be available with turbo-gas, turbo-diesel, and plug-in hybrid engines. But for those who prefer their Defenders with a mighty V8, there’s also the aforementioned OCTA, which gets a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 that generates 650 PS.

With the 2026 Land Rover Defender now available for order in the UK, it might take some time before it arrives in the Philippines. We reckon it could make its way here sometime before the year ends or in early 2026.
