2nd gen Hyundai Nexo FCEV comes with front relaxation seats

Hyundai has clearly impressed critics with their take on electric vehicles, but it also looks like they got it right when it comes to another zero-emissions mobility alternative – hydrogen power.

At the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, Hyundai Motor Company launched the second-generation Nexo fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) with a bold new design and more advanced fuel cell technology for greater range with zero tailpipe emissions.

The all-new Nexo is a midsize SUV that takes its design from the Initium concept. Hyundai says the new “art of steel” design language targets those with both urban and outdoor lifestyles with its rugged image and blocky elements. It has the signature 4-dot lamps on the grille to ensure the Nexo’s visual identity on the road.

Hyundai has also traded away physical mirrors in the all-new Nexo for cameras to provide a digital view for better visibility. That includes the center mirror, the side mirrors, and the rear view camera that also comes with video capture technology.

With the all-new Nexo being longer, wider, and taller than its predecessor, Hyundai was able to open up more room for both cargo and passengers inside. The cabin features the signature elements seen in models like the Santa Fe, Tucson, and the Ioniq EVs, with the panoramic screen design on the dashboard, a column-type shifter, and smart storage placements on the center console and door trims. Hyundai says the rear cargo hold can accommodate up to four golf bags, while the platform can allow owners to utilize accessories to their liking.

In terms of creature comforts, the all-new Nexo features first-row Premium Relaxation Seats with leg rests, while the rear doors open wider for easier ingress and egress.

Hyundai claims to have achieved significant hydrogen powertrain advancements with the all-new Nexo, as the total system power output has gone from 184 to 258 PS and battery output doubled from 40 kW to 80 kW. This takes the all-new Nexo from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. With an increased hydrogen tank capacity (6.69 kg from 6.33 kg), Hyundai says they are targeting more than 700 km of range from a five-minute charge.

Much like Hyundai’s hybrids and EVs, the all-new Nexo has an e-Handling system to improve handling through motor torque control and a smart regenerative braking system that adapts to road conditions. In terms of vehicle function, the all-new Nexo also has V2L and a long list of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technologies for collision prevention.
