JDM Triton Athlete gets minor improvements for 2026MY

The Mitsubishi Triton has been in the Philippine market for quite some time now, to the point that we’ve already gotten used to calling the Mitsubishi pickup Triton instead of Strada.

Apart from getting a price increase due to excise tax being imposed on pickups and a new GX variant, the Triton has relatively remained unchanged since it was launched. However, in its home market, Mitsubishi has made some minor improvements to the pickup truck for the 2026 model year.

The updates are centered around chassis changes, standard equipment additions, some trim changes to the interior, along with its comfort features, and a small exterior change. It’s currently only applied to the Triton GSR in Japan, which is essentially the Triton Athlete that we have in our market.

Starting with the chassis, Mitsubishi has installed Yamaha performance dampers to the front and rear of the Triton’s frame. Not to be mistaken with shock absorbers, the performance dampers are found between the joints of the Triton’s body shell and its ladder frame to absorb chassis distortion, as well as reduce noise and vibrations while driving.

Mitsubishi also claims they have improved the responsiveness of the front and rear shock absorbers, which should improve the ride comfort and handling of the Triton.

For the exterior, Mitsubishi has now equipped the Triton GSR with tailgate assist, which makes it easier to open and close the cargo bed’s tailgate. They have also removed the styling bar at the rear, which Mitsubishi says should allow for greater freedom of customization for owners.

Inside, the center console and inner door handle garnishes have been changed to dark titanium, along with a new Panasonic nanoe-X air filtration system.

For now, these additions apply to only the Japanese market Triton GSR, but hopefully in the coming weeks or months, the updates will make their way to the region, and eventually our market.
