Mitsubishi promises major updates to Outlander PHEV

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is having quite a busy year 2024. Apart from launching all-new models such as the Triton and the Xforce and holding subsequent media drive events for both vehicles, the Japanese carmaker has also given (perhaps) the final refresh to the current-generation Montero Sport.

But while all of that is going on, there’s still a Mitsubishi model we’re still waiting for – the Outlander PHEV. As early as last year, MMPC has been teasing its plug-in hybrid SUV, and Mitsubishi executives themselves are already using some units.

Based on publicly available information, they also have the proper homologation documents for the SUV to be sold here in the country. Furthermore, the EO 62 has been implemented – allowing Mitsubishi to bring in the Outlander PHEV with zero excise taxes.

So what’s keeping them from launching the model, then?

Perhaps, this might be it. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has announced a new update for the Outlander PHEV. They even made a special website for it, complete with teasers and some important information that they’re ready to share with the world.

For starters, Mitsubishi says the Outlander PHEV will get a new battery for its plug-in system. The current combined system output of the PHEV system puts out 251 PS and 450 Nm of torque, with an all-electric range of up to 61 km. But for the update, Mitsubishi says the larger battery capacity and higher output from its electric motor should give the Outlander PHEV an extended EV range with better performance and response.

In terms of interior features, we can expect the new Outlander PHEV with better interior materials, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen, seat ventilation, and like the Xforce, the Outlander PHEV is getting a premium audio system developed by Yamaha.

With the updated Outlander PHEV going on sale in Japan by around September this year, it makes sense for Mitsubishi PH to wait it out and get the new units instead. But hopefully, they won’t keep us waiting longer.
