Foxconn's Foxtron Vehicle Technologies to supply Mitsubishi Motors with an EV
Remember when we reported that Foxconn (yes, the iPhone maker) was set to build electric vehicles (EVs) for Mitsubishi? Well, two months after we first reported about it, Mitsubishi has made it official.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Foxtron Vehicle Technologies Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd. (Foxconn) that makes EVs, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to supply Mitsubishi Motors with a Foxtron-developed EV.

Based on the MOU, the EV that will be supplied to Mitsubishi will be an OEM model and will be developed by Foxtron in Taiwan by Yulon Motor Co. It will then be first introduced in the Oceania region (Australia and New Zealand) in the second half of 2026. The mystery model is part of the company's product plan, first announced last year for Australia, which will extend through 2030.
The exact specifications have yet to be revealed, although Mitsubishi Motors did say that it will feature excellent EV driving performance and an advanced infotainment system. Neither Foxconn nor Mitsubishi Motors said what type of vehicle the EV will be. But given that it will first hit Australia and New Zealand, we won't be surprised if it's going to be a pickup truck.

Foxtron already previewed an all-electric pickup in the form of the Model V. Despite not having an engine under the hood, the company claims the Model V has a payload capacity of one ton and can tow up to three tons worth of cargo. It can also seat five individuals in total and comes with a wide array of intelligent sensors.
With Mitsubishi Motors looking to expand its electrification plans beyond plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and hybrid (HEV), having Foxconn make EVs could be their way of offering EVs without having to shell out plenty of resources. The only question now is, can we expect the Foxconn-based EV to eventually make its way to Southeast Asia, including the Philippines?
