2025 GWM Cannon 4x4 gets bigger 2.4 diesel

After giving us a sneak peek of the refreshed pickup truck last week, GWM Philippines distributor Luxuriant Automotive Group Inc. (LAGI) has officially revealed the 2025 Cannon. Launched to the public at the 20th Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), the GWM Cannon has received an exterior and interior makeover, a new turbo-diesel engine that makes more power and torque, as well as plenty of new features to keep occupants comfy and safe in every adventure.

Starting with the exterior, the 2025 Cannon trades chrome for black-out trim pieces, which can be seen on the grille, side mirror caps, wheel arch extensions, and bumper accents. The pickup truck also gets a new set of LED headlights, a restyled front bumper with redesigned foglights, black door handles, a sports bar in the bed, and a tweaked tailgate that proudly displays the ‘G W M’ logo.

Pop open the doors, and the 2025 Cannon welcomes occupants into a stylish and more upmarket cabin. A pair of high-definition displays are standard in the refreshed pickup truck - one serves as the digital instrument cluster, while the other is the touchscreen infotainment system, complete with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay and GWM Voice Command Assistance.

Also worth mentioning is a new leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, a redesigned center console that appears to have been inspired by the Tank 300, a wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, leather seats with front ventilated seats, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, and a drive mode select system.

Gone is the 2.0L turbo-diesel engine for the 2025 Cannon. Instead, the updated pickup truck gets a new 2.4L turbo-diesel unit that makes 13% more power and 20% additional torque. Compared to the 2.0L, which made 161 PS and 400 Nm of pull, the 2.4L generates 178 PS and 480 Nm of torque. Power is then transferred to a torque-on-demand intelligent 4WD system and a new 9-speed automatic gearbox that replaces the 8-speed unit.

Despite having a slightly bigger displacement, GWM claims the new 2.4L turbo-diesel engine will deliver 10% fuel consumption thanks to the new 9-speed automatic and increased power & torque.

For peace of mind in the event of an accident, the 2025 Cannon is equipped with six airbags. It also has a suite of advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) to keep occupants safe while on the road. These include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, curve-speed adaption, and lane-keeping assist.
