MIAS 2025: Hyundai Elantra returns to PH with hybrid, ICE engines
2025 Elantra comes in ICE, turbo, and hybrid flavors
They say compact four-door sedans are a dying breed in the Philippine market, but Hyundai says otherwise with its latest launch at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show.
Time to say annyeong again to the returning Hyundai Elantra. The seventh-generation model made its way to the PH market last year with the high-performance N variant, but now the more familiar standard version returns to the compact sedan segment to compete with the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis, and the GAC Empow.
Hyundai gave the Elantra a sharper look for its mid-cycle refresh in 2023, and that’s the body style we’re getting for the Philippine market. A pair of sleek LED headlights give the Elantra a keen look, combined with a busy grille design that has diagonal and horizontal slats.
The rear end has a steeply raked pillar with distinct full-width LED taillights, a ducktail-type spoiler, and a large diffuser-like element housed on a black-painted trim forming the rear bumper of the Elantra. Depending on the variant, the 2025 Elantra is available with 15-inch alloy wheels (Standard), 16-inch alloys (HEV), and exclusive 18-inch N-Line alloy wheels for the turbocharged version.
Inside, occupants get a pair of 10.25-inch screens for the instrument display and the infotainment touchscreen. It comes with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, while the leather seats have thick bolsters in front for optimum comfort.
The Elantra comes with three powertrain options for the Philippine market – a 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated version, a 1.6-liter T-GDi, and a 1.6-liter hybrid. The base 1.6-liter version puts out 128 PS and 155 Nm of torque, while the T-GDi engine for the N Line puts out 204 PS and 265 Nm.
The hybrid version, on the other hand, delivers a total system output of 141 PS and 147 Nm of torque. The turbocharged Elantra gets a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the hybrid version comes with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. Lastly, the 1.6-liter non-turbo has a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Much like other models in the higher spectrum of the Hyundai lineup, the Elantra has a lengthy list of features in the Hyundai Smartsense ADAS. Those include the smart cruise control with lane keep assist, lane following assist, and forward collision avoidance assist.
