MG previews next additions to its PH lineup at MIAS 2024

MG Philippines is flexing its comprehensive lineup of vehicles at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show. Occupying a huge space at the SMX Convention Center venue of the show, the brand came out with not just one, not two, but 12 models in total.

Those include existing models like the MG ZS and the MG5, as well as the new MG Cyberster that’s now open for reservations. That said, they have also previewed six new models that we can expect from them in the coming months. Let’s take a look at five of those.

MG3

The MG3 hatchback will soon join the lineup as an ideal choice for first-time car buyers. Apart from its stylish exterior, the MG3 offers modern interior amenities like digital screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment, Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, rotary style gear selectors, and a 360 camera in select variants, to name a few.

Under the hood, the standard MG3 is powered by either a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 120 PS and 150 Nm of torque paired to a CVT or 5-speed manual. But there will be an electrified version with a 1.5-liter inline four assisted by an electric motor and a 1.83 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Yes, the MG3 will have a full hybrid variant that puts out a combined 194 PS and comes with a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

Size-wise, the MG3 measures 4113mm long, 1797mm wide, 1502mm tall, and has a 2570mm wheelbase. For reference, that’s B-segment hatchback territory but MG says we can expect the entry price to be similar to those of the smaller Brio and Wigo.

MG7

The MG Cyberster is quite the looker with its roadster body style, but MG’s upcoming MG7 sedan doesn’t fall far with its oozing curb appeal as a sports sedan. MG did not reveal much about the MG7’s specifications apart from its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that puts out 261 PS and 405 Nm of torque paired to a 9-speed ZF automatic gearbox.

Inside, the MG7 sedan has a dual-screen display - one for the driver's instrument cluster, and the other for infotainment. For your listening pleasure, the MG7 comes with a 14-speaker Bose surround sound system.

A quick look at what other markets are getting suggests the Camry-sized sedan could come with an electronic limited-slip differential in front and adjustable dampers for the suspension. Quite simply, the MG7 not only looks elegant, but it could also highlight MG’s high-performance aspirations.

MG RX9

If you’re looking for a stylish 7-seater midsize crossover, then you might want to wait for the MG RX9. Featuring a large grille, split headlights, pop-out door handles, and full-width LED taillights, the RX9 will definitely attract attention with its eye-catching looks.

Together with the MG7, the MG RX9 features a triple – yes- triple-screen setup on the dashboard, creating a 47-inch combined display. There are captain seats on the second row, with leather all around the cabin along with wood panels to create a luxurious feel inside.

MG says the RX9 will be powered by a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo unit that puts out 234 PS and 392 Nm of torque. Based on its home market version, the RX9 has a 9-speed automatic transmission and could even be offered with all-wheel-drive.

MG G50

MG’s next offering for the family vehicle class is something we’ve already experienced before; the G50 was previously being offered with a Maxus badge. But now that it’s about to join the MG lineup, the G50 MPV also came with a few more updates.

The G50 MPV now comes with a bigger 12-inch infotainment screen, along with wireless charging to offer better connectivity. It still has a 1.5-liter turbo that puts out 169 PS and 250 Nm of torque, but we’ve heard the transmission has been changed to a smoother 7-speed wet-type dual-clutch unit. That change is reflected as the gear selector is now attached to the steering column.

MG Mifa 9 EV

Last but definitely not least is MG’s take on the luxury MPV segment which most Chinese brands are also looking to compete in. They have previewed the Mifa 9 EV – yes, you heard that right. The Mifa 9 is an all-electric luxury MPV with 7 seats, with a lot of premium features such as ottoman seats with memory, massage, heating, and ventilation functions, as well as a dual panoramic sunroof.

What MG tells us is that the Mifa 9 comes with a 90 kWh battery powering a single motor setup producing 245 PS and 350 Nm of torque. Moreover, the Mifa 9 EV can reach up to 365 km on a single charge using the WLTP cycle.

Even though the Mifa 9 is a battery electric vehicle, MG says pricing will be around PHP 4.5 million which is quite in a similar ballpark as the GAC M8 and still less than the Toyota Alphard.
