Hyundai's Genesis brand wants to prove they can make performance sports cars with Magma GT Concept
Remember when Hyundai's luxury marque Genesis wowed everyone when they unveiled the Magma sub-brand at the 2024 New York Auto Show? Think of Magma as Genesis' answer to BMW's M and Lexus' F.
With Magma serving as Genesis' performance sub-brand, they're about to show the competition that they are more than just making luxury vehicles. In fact, Genesis just revealed one heck of a surprise, and we reckon it will give the stalwarts of the performance world something to think about.

Say hello to the Magma GT Concept, and it's raring to take on other sports cars. Revealed at the Genesis Magma World Premiere in France, the landmark concept defines the direction of the brand's performance heritage for the next 10 years.
Since it serves as the brand's first pure sports car model, the Magma GT Concept is a key milestone towards “Luxury High Performance”. In addition, Genesis says the Magma GT Concept emphasizes “Effortless Performance”, which prioritizes balance and confidence over showmanship or aggression.

The concept itself features a mid-engine layout with a motorsports-inspired design. It comes with the brand's now-familiar LED headlight design, but the rest of the vehicle is pure exotica design. It features low-slung bumpers, an elongated sloping roofline that accentuates the vehicle's shape, and a race-ready silhouette typically found on Hot Wheels cars.
Complementing its race-ready profile are the wide & muscular fenders that reinterpret the classic GT race car proportions. It also has a boat-tail cabin that narrows towards the rear to maximize the low & wide posture of the Magma GT Concept.

Other key exterior features include front canards that seamlessly integrate with the headlights, G-Matrix aerodynamic patterns that extend from the front splitter to create wing-like forms for added aerodynamic efficiency and visual appeal, and a mechanical rear two-line lamp graphic with a fully optimized rear aero structure that highlights the Magma GT Concept's presence.
Combined with the butterfly doors, massive alloy wheels with low-profile tires, and unmistakable profile, the Magma GT Concept could be the car that propels Genesis to the performance spotlight. However, the automaker has yet to reveal its powertrain, although we reckon it could be one heck of a surprise.
