LTO on all out war against colorum vehicles
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced that it will conduct more anti-colorum operations that will hit hard against operators of illegal transport.
LTO Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said that the anti-colorum campaign will be more aggressive than before, citing its adverse effects on legitimate transport operators who said that they have been losing 30% of their income per day to colorum operators.
“Taking the cue from the President's directive, which was echoed by the Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, the LTO intends to double time its efforts and widen its net by coordinating efforts with the PNP, PCG, and SAICT,” said Mendoza after the Bagong Pilipinas Townhall Meeting with President Marcos on Wednesday, April 10, in San Juan City.

Mendoza also disclosed that the LTO will also strengthen the coordination with port authorities to ensure that colorum vehicles would not be able to make inter-island travel, especially using Roll-On, Roll-Off (RoRo) vessels.
“We will shut the doors in the various ports to prevent colorum motor vehicles from traveling from Visayas to Metro Manila,” added Mendoza.
“We will also hit them at the terminals and expressways. We will control key junctions through in key cities to prevent them from plying.”
The LTO assured that more coordination meetings with other concerned agencies like the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will be done in preparing criminal charges against colorum drivers and operators who would be apprehended.
Operating colorum vehicles has an imprisonment penalty of up to six years and a fine of up to P2 million.
