Jaecoo J7 SHS joins compact crossover plug-in hybrid arena in PH

After being previewed at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) a few months ago, Omoda Jaecoo Philippines has officially launched its answer to the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i.

Say hello to the Jaecoo J7 and its Super Hybrid System (SHS). Powered by the brand’s very own plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, the J7 is capable of traveling nearly 1490 km and is capable of averaging over 24 km/L according to the Automobile Association Philippines’ (AAP) Verification Range Test.

Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 142 PS and 215 Nm of torque. It is then assisted by an electric motor that puts out an additional 204 PS with 310 Nm of torque and is powered by an 18.3 kWh battery pack. The result is a total system output of 275 PS and a generous 365 Nm of torque.

Power is then sent to the wheels via a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). On battery power alone, Jaecoo claims the J7 can cover up to 90 km, but based on the AAP’s Range Verification Test, the PHEV is capable of traveling up to 106 km without using a drop of fuel under ideal conditions. The J7 was also able to travel with a combined range of 1,488 km, beating the automaker’s original claim of up to 1,200 km of range, combined.

Recharging the battery can be done via an AC or a fast DC charging system. A 6.6 kW AC charger can fully recharge the J7’s battery from 25% to 100% in 2.5 hours, while a 40kW DC system can replenish it from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

Using a 230V home socket, meanwhile, can fully charge the battery from 25% to 100% in around 10 hours. In case you need emergency power during a blackout, the J7 comes with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function as standard and supports 3.3 kW of power.
