Type 00 Concept is Jaguar's vision for an all-electric future

After grabbing everyone's attention with their rebranding, Jaguar has officially revealed its latest concept. Following a teaser last month, Jaguar has taken the covers off the Type 00 which embodies Jaguar's Exuberant Modernism design philosophy.

Billed by the British automaker as an “unmistakable, unexpected, and dramatic physical manifestation of Jaguar”, the Type 00 Concept was revealed at this year's Miami Art Week and features a long hood, and short deck design reminiscent of classic Jaguars. But why is it called the Type 00 in the first place?

According to Jaguar, the name Type is a link to the brand's past, particularly the E-Type which became one of the brand's most recognizable vehicles. Meanwhile, the “00” name means two things – the first zero references zero emissions while the second zero represents the concept's status as “car zero” in its new lineage.

“Type 00 is a pure expression of Jaguar’s new creative philosophy. It has an unmistakable presence. This is the result of brave, unconstrained creative thinking, and unwavering determination. It is our first physical manifestation and the foundation stone for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen. A vision which strives for the highest level of artistic endeavor,” said Professor Gerry McGovern, OBE, Chief Creative Officer at JLR.

With a long hood, a sweeping roofline, massive 23-inch alloy wheels, a fastback profile, a boat-tail silhouette, and what looks to be a wraparound cockpit, the Jaguar Type 00 looks to have been inspired by a certain Dark Knight's choice of vehicle in Gotham City. But unlike the caped crusader's black vehicle, the Jaguar Type 00 Concept comes in lighter shades of color – London Blue and Miami Pink.

Also worth mentioning are the butterfly doors and the brass ingot below the front fenders on each side of the vehicle. While the ingots look like they're only for show, they actually deploy to reveal rear-facing cameras and only pop out when needed.

Just like the previous teaser, the Type 00 lacks a rear glass window and only comes with a large rear vent. Accompanied by large muscular fenders, the rear end looks prominent although we won't be surprised if Jaguar will make changes for the production version.

Step inside and the Type 00 Concept welcomes you into a cabin that looks straight out of a high-end lounge. With an emphasis on space, the interior is massive and comes with unexpected features like brass lines that run the entire length of the interior. Floating-style seats, woven textiles, wool upholstery, and LED ambient lighting surround the cabin for that extra comfy feeling.

A pair of displays sit proudly on the dashboard of the Jaguar Type 00 Concept. But unlike most vehicles wherein they can distract you at times, Jaguar decided to make them hidden from view if the occupants prefer to. That's right, both the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system can be stowed away and only pop out if the driver or passenger wants them to. Hopefully, this feature will become available in the production version of the concept.

While the concept has given us a good idea of what to expect in the future, what will the production version be like? The automaker has mentioned that Type 00 will become the basis of the first new-generation production Jaguar which will be a four-door GT. It's set to be revealed in late 2025 and will have a range of up to 770 km based on the WLTP cycle. Combined with a rapid charging system, Jaguar claims that a 15-minute charge will give the four-door GT a range of up to 321 km.

Jaguar surely made a buzz when it rebranded. But with the concept highlighting an electric four-door GT, will this create more buzz for the British automaker?
