Toyota Motor PH gets regulatory approval for a 3445cc engine
Yesterday, we reported that the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado could get a hybrid option. This came after the SUV received hybrid recognition from the Department of Energy (DOE). With that, either Toyota Motor Philippines or gray market importers may offer the electrified version of the Land Cruiser Prado.
Now, another hybrid SUV could soon be on the market. Recently, Toyota Motor Philippines received regulatory approval for a new passenger vehicle with an engine displacement of 3445cc, which translates to 3.4L (or 3.5L in other markets). With a reference weight between 2720 and 2780 kg, this is one hefty vehicle.

So far, TMP has been quiet about what exactly is the mystery vehicle they're bringing in. But a quick check of the engine displacement and the most recent vehicle to get a 3.4L engine has given us a good idea of what to expect. Last month, Lexus launched the LX 700h, the hybrid version of the brand's flagship 4x4 SUV. It has a 3.4L twin-turbo V6 that's assisted by an iForce Max hybrid system which delivers a total system output of 457 PS and 790 Nm of torque.
Since Lexus Philippines offers a wide array of hybrid models (from the UX to the RX), it stands to reason they might also offer a hybrid variant of the LX. With the zero-tariff policy on hybrids in effect, Lexus could price the LX 700h more competitively compared to the ICE version.

Do you think the Lexus LX 700h would make sense in the Philippines? And would it make for a great case for owners to get the hybrid version instead of the ICE model? Let us know in the comments what you think.
