BMW PH to reveal an all-new EV on August 15, 2024

BMW Philippines distributor SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation has been busy launching EVs this year. Despite the recent slow-down of demand for electric cars globally, the German automaker launched not one, not two, but three EVs in the country since the start of 2024. These are the i4 eDrive35, the i4 M50, and the i5 eDrive40.

Soon, BMW's all-electric offering will include yet another new model. Recently, the automaker sent us an invite for an upcoming vehicle launch on August 15, 2024. Based on the invitation they sent, it appears the automaker will be launching the iX1 – the electric cousin of the all-new BMW X1 which has been in the country since March 2023.

No other details about the mystery vehicle were shared by the automaker. However, they did mention that it will be fully electric and will offer customers “a versatile drive and pursue new paths in everyday use”. Specifications and powertrain details of the soon-to-be-launched EV have yet to be revealed by the company. But based on what international markets get, we already have a good idea of what to expect.

There are two possible variants of the BMW iX1 that could debut next month. The first one is the xDrive30 which comes with a pair of electric motors that produce a total system output of 317 PS and 494 Nm of torque. Powered by a 64.7 kWh battery pack, the iX1 xDrive30 has a range of up to 440 km based on the WLTP cycle. It can sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h.

Like the AWD variant, the eDrive20 also has a 64.7 kWh battery pack which gives it a slightly better range of up to 475 km based on the WLTP cycle. From a standstill, the iX1 eDrive20 can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 8.6 seconds and hit a top speed of around 170 km/h.

Recharging the xDrive30 and eDrive20 from 0 to 100% with a standard 11kW AC charger can take up to 6 hours and 30 minutes. Using a faster 22kW AC charger, however, will shorten the recharge time to around 3 hours and 45 minutes. Opt for a DC fast charger and both cars can be recharged to 80% in just 30 minutes.
