Department of Energy gives Geely EX5 EM-I plug-in hybrid recognition

Yesterday, we reported on the first batch of the Geely EX5 EM-I PHEV arriving in the Philippines. With that, the automaker is set to take on the likes of the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, Jaecoo J7 PHEV, and perhaps even the Chery Tiggo rEV.

Geely Philippines said the EX5 EM-I will be launched within Q1 2026, which means we can expect its official debut soon. But what can customers expect from the electrified crossover once it’s launched? Well, the Department of Energy (DOE) has just recognized the EX5 EM-I for the Philippine market, and we were able to take a peek at some of its specifications.

For starters, it has a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine that makes 73 kW or 99 PS and 125 Nm of torque. The engine will serve as a generator, recharging the onboard 18.4 kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery pack, which then powers a front electric motor that produces 160 kW or 218 PS and 262 Nm of torque.

Recharging the battery pack can be done via an AC charger or a fast DC charger. The former is rated at 6.6 kW, which can replenish the battery from 10% to 100% in around 3 hours. Meanwhile, the DC fast charger is rated up to 30 kW and can recharge the battery from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

On just battery power alone, Geely says the EX5 EM-I can travel up to 105 km based on the NEDC cycle. With a full tank of gasoline and a fully charged battery, Geely claims the crossover can travel up to 1,000 km based on the NEDC cycle. Last but not least, the EX5 EM-I is capable of achieving an average of up to 4.3L per 100 km or 23.2 km/L.

When it comes to amenities, the Geely EX5 EM-I will be available with a long list of features. These include a wireless charging pad, a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system, a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, a heads-up display, automatic climate control with rear vents, 256-color ambient lighting, and a host of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).

Expect Geely Philippines to release more details about the EX5 EM-I PHEV closer to its launch.
