Green GSM taxis to be equipped with in-cabin cameras and emergency buttons

App-based taxi services have become a daily lifeline for thousands of commuters, offering a convenient and generally affordable alternative to traditional transport. However, recent headline-making incidents involving the alleged harassment of passengers by drivers have raised renewed concerns about rider safety.

In response, Green GSM announced that it will equip its fleet with in-cabin cameras and emergency buttons designed to record trips from start to finish, a move aimed at strengthening passenger protection and ensuring clearer accountability in the event of disputes or safety incidents.

Driver emergency button

Unlike conventional setups where cameras are installed primarily for post-incident review, the new Green GSM Secure-to-Safe (S2S) system camera forms part of a broader, real-time safety framework. The system combines in-cabin and exterior cameras, discreet emergency alert buttons for both passengers and drivers, and direct connectivity to the company’s operations center. Together, these components are intended to identify irregular situations early and enable faster, more coordinated responses when assistance is required.

Positioned to provide a clear view of activity inside the vehicle, Green GSM says that its S2S supports accurate situation assessment during reported incidents, helping operations teams distinguish between misunderstandings, safety risks, and genuine emergencies. This allows responses to be based on verified information rather than assumptions, protecting both passengers and drivers.

Passenger emergency button

When an emergency button is activated by a driver via a control beneath the steering wheel or by a passenger through a discreetly placed button near the rear seat B-pillar, an alert is immediately transmitted to the operations center. Depending on the situation, Green GSM’s protocols allow for customer support intervention, coordination with nearby resources, or engagement with authorities in line with established procedures.

Green GSM also says that camera footage and related data are encrypted, retained only for a limited period, and accessed solely through lawful requests. The company says this approach is intended to balance accountability with privacy, ensuring the cameras function as safety tools rather than surveillance devices.
