GAC Motor PH to launch Emkoo Hybrid at MIAS 2024
The coding-exempt Emkoo is coming
Astara Philippines is one of the biggest distributors that will showcase its whole portfolio of brands at the upcoming 2024 Manila International Auto Show. With the Peugeot, GAC, JMC, and JAC brands under the Astara umbrella, the distributor has confirmed they will be present at the two venues of this year’s event.
One of Astara’s fastest-growing brands in the country is GAC Motor. Just recently, they have expanded their lineup with the introduction of the all-new M8 and M6 Pro MPV. But for this year’s MIAS, it’s GAC’s time to bring in an electrified crossover.
GAC Motor is launching the new Emkoo Hybrid. Yes, it’s exactly the brand’s electrified version of its concept car-looking crossover. The only main difference between the standard ICE Emkoo and the Emkoo Hybrid lies underneath the hood.
Instead of having the 1.5-liter turbo-four from the Empow, the upcoming Emkoo Hybrid has a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine that’s assisted by an electric motor. GAC’s hybrid system for the Emkoo works similarly to Toyota’s system, where propulsion can come from either the electric motor, the ICE, or as a combined unit.
The 2.0-liter engine alone produces 140 PS and 180 Nm of torque. But when combined with the hybrid system’s electric motor, the Emkoo Hybrid puts out a total system output of 238 PS and 300 Nm of torque. Instead of a 7-speed wet-type dual-clutch, the Emkoo Hybrid transfers power to the front wheels via a 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT). If anything, the Emkoo Hybrid's powertrain is similar to that of the Empow Hybrid.
GAC claims the Emkoo Hybrid has better fuel efficiency and enhanced performance. In their home market, the electrified powertrain can do up to 21 km/l under the CLTC cycle. With the Emkoo Hybrid, GAC gets a direct competitor to the likes of the GWM Haval H6 HEV, the Geely Azkarra mild hybrid, and Chery Tiggo 7 Pro PHEV in the electrified compact crossover segment.
The Emkoo Hybrid will join the rest of GAC’s MIAS display which will consist of the M8, M6 Pro, the GS3 Emzoom, Empow, and the GS8 SUV. GAC will also offer test drives for customers on all four days of the 2024 MIAS.
The 2024 Manila International Auto Show will be held at the SMX Convention Center and World Trade Center Manila venues on April 4 to 7.
