Astara’s making good progress with GAC in PH market
GAC has been having a solid run in the Philippine market. With a string of good models that offer consumers more for their money as well as a growing dealership network with Astara at the helm, GAC has certainly captured the attention of the market. And it seems HQ is definitely taking notice.
During the 2025 GAC International Partner Conference, an event that brought together GAC’s partner distributors and importers from all around the world, Astara-led GAC Motor Philippines received back-to-back Gold Awards for Outstanding Distributor of the Year 2024 and Outstanding Sales Department of 2024.
GAC International recognized the efforts of GAC Motor Philippines to grow the presence of the brand in the country. In 2024, their sales volume increased by 65%; a number that far exceeds the industry-wide average growth rate.
In dealership expansion, GAC is also at the forefront. In 2022, they had just 6 dealerships. Then they grew to 20 in 2023, 32 in 2024 and definitely more this year. That means GAC has one of the fastest network expansion rates in the local automobile market.

“These global recognitions reflect the strong performance and growing presence of GAC Motor Philippines,” said Luis Torres, Country Manager of Astara Philippines. “Our success is driven by the dedication of our team, dealer partners, and customers who continue to support the brand. With the strengthened support of GAC Motor International, we will continue to deliver high-quality vehicles, enhance customer satisfaction, and strengthen our position in the industry.”

2025 will be an interesting year for GAC in the Philippines though. Many Chinese rivals want to mimic the success of GAC in the last two years.
Geely is looking to recapture the ground they lost in the rather rocky transition period from partner distributor to full-on subsidiary mode. The story is the same for MG which is now under SAIC in the Philippines; they too are also working to regain momentum. BYD is perhaps the most interesting brand to look at, as a wave of very competitively priced and increasingly attractive models are winning over customers.
GAC will have to double their efforts to weather the coming storm, especially since there seems to be a price war brewing between the many brands in the local market. We shall see how the year will turn out for Astara and GAC at the end of 2025.
