DPWH Sec Vince Dizon says initial works will start on December 24 until January 5, 2026

After President Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr. postponed the EDSA Rehabilitation Project earlier this year, the Department of Public Works & Highways announced that starting December 24, 2025, rehabilitation works will officially begin along the major roadway.

This was confirmed by DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon during a press conference earlier today, together with Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Giovanni Lopez and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Don Artes.

Dizon shared that initial rehabilitation works will see the reblocking and asphalt overlaying of the EDSA Busway lanes. This will be carried out for 24 hours starting on December 24 during the holiday break, or from 11:00 PM beginning on December 24 until January 5, 2026, at 4:00 AM.

“December 24, 11:00 PM to January 5, 4:00 AM, we will be working 24/7 on EDSA during the Christmas and New Year holiday. As Chairman Don said, not many people will use EDSA during this time. Even passengers on the Busway, they are not that many. So we will take advantage of that,” said Dizon.

As for the entire stretch of EDSA, Dizon said that instead of the original two-year timetable for the rehabilitation works, the DPWH Secretary said that the project will be completed in just 8 months. Phase 1 will span from Roxas Boulevard to Orense for four months, while Phase 2 will see rehab works being done along the rest of EDSA for the remaining four months.

With less than a year for rehabilitation works along EDSA to be completed, we're curious if the MMDA or the DOTr have already consulted with LGUs for possible traffic rerouting starting next year. With traffic flow expected to be affected during the rehabilitation works, we're expecting some kind of traffic alleviation plans to be put up. After all, the President did say that there will be no EDSA Rehab without proper rerouting plans.
