Chery Tiggo Cross HEV gets approval from the LTO, DOE

Chery Auto Philippines set to reveal Tiggo Cross HEV

Earlier this year, at the 2025 Manila International Auto Show, Chery Auto Philippines' distributor, United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI), launched the Tiggo Cross. Not only is it jam-packed with features like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, and a wireless charging pad, it's also selling for quite a price at PHP 998,000.

With its sub-PHP1 million price tag and numerous features, the 1.5L naturally aspirated Chery Tiggo Cross is quite the bargain. However, with automakers continually flooding the market with electrified vehicles, Chery needs to introduce an electrified version of its new subcompact crossover. Fortunately, it appears that UAAGI had already considered this months ago.

Recently, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has approved the Chery Tiggo Cross HEV for the Philippine market. Based on its name alone, it appears the Tiggo Cross will soon be available as a hybrid electric vehicle. According to the Memorandum Circular the LTO recently released, the Tiggo Cross HEV will come with a 1498cc gasoline engine (or 1.5L) and will be assisted by an electric motor along with a lithium-iron phosphate battery.

The Tiggo Cross HEV will measure 4320mm long, 1831mm wide, and 1652mm tall. It will also have a 2610mm wheelbase and a ground clearance of 190mm. Last but not least, it will roll on 215/60 tires that are wrapped in 17-inch alloy wheels.

As far as its powertrain is concerned, the Department of Energy (DOE) has already recognized the Tiggo Cross HEV as a hybrid electric vehicle. In fact, initial specifications reveal that the electrified Tiggo Cross is powered by the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) system. Thanks to an electric motor and a 1.83 kWh battery, the Tiggo Cross HEV has a combined system output of 150 PS and 230 Nm of torque. It also benefits from regenerative braking to recharge the battery while on the go and is equipped with a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT).

With the Chery Tiggo Cross HEV already approved by the LTO and the DOE, perhaps it's only a matter of time before UAAGI officially launches. We'll be curious to know more about the upcoming HEV from Chery, as well as its sticker price.
