Chery X revealed as an electrified 7-seater with a versatile cabin

If there's a car market where 7-seaters are popular, it's Southeast Asia. Countries like Indonesia and the Philippines have a knack for vehicles with three rows of seats, as they like to have the extended family with them, or if they need to bring extra passengers for a trip.

Chery Motor Indonesia sees a huge potential in this particular segment and recently launched what it calls its first transformable 7-seater SUV. It's called the Chery X, and it recently made its public debut at the 2025 Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW).

According to the automaker, the Chery X is a “transformable multi-purpose SUV” that features a bold exterior and a cabin that can adapt to various configurations and setups with ease. Beginning with its looks, the Chery X features the “tiger roar” front grille, “tiger eye” taillights, and three parallel claw mark character lines that give the vehicle a more prominent look.

The main attraction of the Chery X, however, lies in its cabin. With a total length of 4900mm and a wheelbase spanning 2800mm, this 7-seater has plenty of interior space. It has a flexible layout that features a foldable second row and a quick-release third row. This allows the Chery X to be a 7-seater, as well as have the ability to transform into a 4-seater. It can also double as a camper van to provide utmost comfort while in the outdoors.

With an emphasis on navigating Indonesia's mountainous terrain and abundant waterways, the Chery X features a fully waterproofed powertrain. This includes the engine, transmission, electric motors, and battery system. It also gives the Chery X a wading depth of up to 700mm and 220mm of ground clearance.

With Chery X demonstrating the brand's ability to adapt and transform electrified vehicles for various regions, we're curious if the automaker plans to bring the Chery X to other markets like the Philippines. With plug-in hybrids and 7-seaters continuing to grow in popularity, the Chery X could serve as another electrified model in the brand's lineup.
