BYD announces recall that affects over 115K vehicles

BYD may have been making the headlines for being the rising star of the automotive world. But much like any other carmaker, they’re not immune to making some manufacturing hiccups along the way.

After filing a recall that affected almost 100k EV units last year, BYD is posting its largest recall to date – one that affects a total of 115,738 vehicles. Those include models from the Tang series and the Yuan Pro electric vehicle produced between 2015 and 2022.

First-generation BYD Tang

The recall was issued due to design defects and battery-related safety risks, according to China’s market regulator. A total of 44,535 Tang series vehicles produced between March 2015 and July 2017 are being recalled, in which some component design flaws can cause abnormal function.

BYD Yuan Pro

On the other hand, 71,428 units of the Yuan Pro made between February 2021 and August 2022 are being recalled due to manufacturing issues affecting battery installation. The Yuan Pro is the predecessor of the Yuan Plus, or more commonly known in the country as the Atto 3.

As for owners of BYD vehicles in the Philippines that were sold under ACMobility dealers, they are unlikely to be part of the recall, as the second-generation Tang that’s currently in the market debuted globally in 2018. The first-gen Yuan Pro, on the other hand, was never sold by BYD under ACMobility.
