BMW gives us a glimpse of what will its new-generation crossovers will look like

Last year, BMW took the covers off the Vision Neue Klasse concept which is essentially a preview of what the next-generation 3 Series would look like. With its rakish body style, distinct front fascia, unique coupe-like shape, and high-tech interior, the Neue Klasse shows us what future BMWs could look like.

Fast forward to 2024 and BMW has revealed yet another concept that highlights the new look of its next-generation crossovers. Unveiled to the world is the BMW Vision Neue Klasse X, and it's basically a preview of things to come for BMW's X series of vehicles.

Much like the Neue Klasse sedan concept, the Vision Neue Klasse X shares a similar look and design but is taller and wider. It also comes with a unique front fascia that combines the old and the new. Starting with the latter, the new-age design highlights BMW's vision for its new line of crossover that will feature a new set of signature LED headlight designs.

However, it is perhaps the vertical kidney grilles that are the most eye-catching part of the vehicle. While they may look new, the design is a homage to BMWs of the past, particularly the 2002 and the Neue Klasse sedan from the 1960s. While they may look purely aesthetic, the grilles actually serve a purpose and are hollowed out. More importantly, this could be a signal that the automaker will make the switch from big grilles to smaller grilles in the future.

The overall design may be for crossovers, but BMW did give the Neue Klasse X a more cohesive and aerodynamic look than the brand's current lineup of crossovers. Combined with the muscular fenders, generous glass area, massive alloy wheels, and relatively long hood, the concept car looks more daring without being overly stylish. Also worth mentioning are the specially-designed LED taillights and tailgate.

Hop inside and the interior features plant-based material that was sustainably developed for a more eco-friendly look & finish. In addition, 30% of the materials used inside the vehicle are made from discarded fishing nets which adds to the “upcycling” of materials used. The cabin also looks similar to the Neue Klasse concept first revealed last year and features a center media display, a specially designed steering wheel, a panoramic glass roof, and unique seats.

There is no exact word yet when will BMW reveal the production version of the Vision Neue Klasse X concept. However, rumors are going around that since the concept will become the basis of the all-new iX3, it will reportedly have its own dedicated EV platform. That means when the next-generation X3 rolls around, the ICE and EV versions will likely no longer share a similar architecture.
