Ford Ranger Wildtrak swaps 2.0L bi-turbo for 3.0L V6 Powerstroke
Remember when Ford launched the updated Ranger late last year? Not only did the pickup truck get some subtle updates, but it also dropped the 2.0L bi-turbo diesel in favor of the 2.0L single turbo that now gets a timing chain instead of a wet timing belt. Moreover, the 2.0L bi-turbo diesel will be replaced by the more powerful 3.0L Powerstroke V6.

At this year’s Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS), Ford has given us a glimpse of the V6-powered Ranger Wildtrak, which will likely arrive later in the Philippines.

But what can interested customers expect from the upcoming pickup truck?

For starters, the Blue Oval gave the Wildtrak some key changes. These include new 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, a new adjustable sports bar to carry additional cargo, a redesigned front bumper & grille, Matrix LED headlights, and a V6 badge on the side to remind everyone this has a different engine.

But what really grabbed our attention is the new 3.0L Powerstroke turbo-diesel V6. It replaces the 2.0L bi-turbo inline-four and makes 250 PS with 600 Nm of torque, which translates to an additional 40 PS and an extra 100 Nm of pulling power. Power is then sent to a 10-speed automatic transmission with a part-time 4WD system.

With the Ranger Wildtrak set to receive the new 3.0L Powerstroke V6 turbo-diesel, we also won’t be surprised if the top-of-the-line Everest models will get the same V6 engine under the hood. After all, Ford has already received regulatory approvals for two new vehicles that come with a 2993cc engine displacement, which is the exact engin size of the new Powertroke V6.

With the Philippine International Motor Show only several months away, perhaps Ford Philippines will hold the debut of both vehicles.
