Chery Q electric hatchback wants to take on BYD Dolphin, Geely EX2

Earlier this year, Chery brought back the QQ name for an all-electric hatchback. It's called the QQ3, and it combines a cute hatchback design with an all-electric powertrain that's paired with a high-tech cabin.

Fast forward one month, and the Chery QQ3 has officially arrived in Southeast Asia and made its regional debut at the 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) as the Chery Q. Like its predecessor, which had a very colorful history in the Philippines, the all-electric Chery Q is touted as an affordable hatchback. But unlike its forefather, the all-new Chery Q is bigger, more stylish, and can travel up to 400 km on a single charge.

Starting with its electric hardware, the Chery Q is powered by a lithium-iron phosphate battery. Depending on the variant chosen, the EV has a range between 280 km and 401 km on a full charge. The battery then drives a rear electric motor that's available in two states of tune: 58 kW or 78 PS and 90 kW or 122 PS.

In terms of looks, the Chery Q appears to have been inspired by European hatchbacks. With its rounded curves and dynamic shape, the EV is both stylish and quirky. The Chery Q also has a pair of eye-catching LED headlights, Mini Clubman-like LED taillights, distinct alloy wheels, and generous black body cladding.

Size-wise, the Chery Q measures 4195mm long, 1811mm wide, 1573mm tall, and has a 2700mm wheelbase. With the rear seats up, Chery says the Q has a cargo area of 375 liters. Fold those down, however, and luggage space increases to 1,450 liters.

Pop the doors open, and the Chery Q welcomes you into a high-tech cabin. Despite its small size, the EV comes with a huge 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster. It also has a two-tone dashboard with bright accents on the aircon vents, 256-color ambient lighting, audio controls on the steering wheel, and a wireless charging pad for mobile devices.

Can we expect the Chery Q to come to the Philippines? Perhaps, since BYD has proven that the Dolphin and Seagull mini EVs are quite popular with Filipino customers. Heck, even Geely Motor Philippines wants in on the small EV segment, as the EX2 has just been recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE).

Do you think the Chery Q EV will make sense in the Philippines? Let us know.
